The word mysticism is also derived from Greek.
- Muein = to close the eyes or mouth, to keep secret, to initiate
- Mustes = a person initiated into secret rites
- Musterion = secret rites to which only initiates were admitted
The word mystery has the following definitions:
- Unexplained and unexplainable, inexplicable, secret, unknown
- A spiritual discipline aiming at union with the divine through
deep meditation or contemplation
- The experience of such a union
- Any belief of the existence of realities beyond perceptual or
intellectual apprehension but central to being and directly accessible by intuition.
